The Cincinnati Bengals have been dealing with quarterback issues most of the season, thanks to the fact that Joe Burrow got turf toe and was injured in the second game of the season. The case of turf toe forced the Bengals to put Burrow on Injured Reserve. They followed their 2-0 start with Burrow with a 1-7 record since his injury.

However, he has since been activated, and his practice window has been opened.

This week, the Bengals are playing the Patriots, and after Burrow was a limited practice participant last week before the Steelers game, he has been a full participant in two straight practices.

It is worth noting that head coach Zac Taylor and the Bengals have not confirmed whether Burrow will play this weekend. Still, based on the injury report and the fact that he has been listed as a full participant, it should help Bengals fans get excited to see him come back for the homestretch of the NFL season.

The former LSU all-time great quarterback would be an instant boost for the Bengals and could help them cling to their small postseason hopes.

Burrow is a difference-maker and has been throughout his football career. He helped LSU reach heights the program had never seen in 2019, winning the Heisman Trophy and leading LSU to the national title. The Tigers won a program-record 15 games and capped their fourth-ever unbeaten season.

When healthy, he has been a top-5 quarterback in the NFL. The Bengals are currently a 6-point underdog (via BetMGM) against the 9-2 Patriots in Week 12. That game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.

The National Football League suspended former LSU star receiver Ja’Marr Chase for 1 game without pay Monday after determining that Chase spat at Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey with a little more than 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of the Steelers’ 34-12 Week 11 victory.

Chase denied spitting on Ramsey, but the league office determined there was “sufficient” video evidence to warrant the suspension:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Chase is appealing the suspension – one that would be heard and ruled upon by either Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson, the hearing officers jointly appointed by the NFL and NFL Players Association.

If the suspension is upheld, Chase would miss his team’s upcoming game against the New England Patriots in Week 12. Schefter reported that the suspension would cost Chase his weekly paycheck of $448,333 along with a $58,823 per game active bonus he would be forfeiting.

Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter spit on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott before the first play from scrimmage in Week 1, prompting Carter’s ejection. The NFL viewed that as a 1-game suspension.

Chase starred at LSU during the Tigers’ run to the 2020 national championship – a season in which he won the Biletnikoff Award for the country’s top collegiate receiver.

Former Oklahoma tight end Mark Andrews had himself quite the day on Sunday as he became the all-time leader in receiving yards for the Baltimore Ravens.

It took 6 minutes and only one catch for 11 yards this Sunday for Andrews to become the Ravens’ all-time leader in receiving yards with 5,784 yards. Andrews passed former Michigan State wide receiver Derrick Mason as the all-time leader.

https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1990172576732397768

However, this was not the end of the day for Andrews, who later rushed in a touchdown that gave the Ravens a 23-16 lead over the Cleveland Browns.

Andrews took a 4th and 1 run 35 yards to the house to break the tie between the Ravens and the Browns with just a little over 2:30 left in the game.

Andrews would finish the day with 3 receptions for 32 yards and 1 rush for 35 yards and a touchdown. Andrews’ rushing touchdown would give the Ravens the lead, and they would not lose it as they beat the Browns 23-16.

Andrews was a tight end for Oklahoma from 2014 to 2017. In his 2017 season, Andrews totaled 62 receptions for 958 yards and 8 touchdowns. He was a consensus All-American and was a big reason why Baker Mayfield was able to win the Heisman.

The post Shedeur Sanders struggles mightily in NFL debut appeared first on Saturday Down South.

Shedeur Sanders’ much-anticipated NFL debut turned into a dud.

When starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel suffered a concussion, in came Sanders to try to rescue the Cleveland Browns on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. The former Colorado star and son of NFL legend Deion Sanders entered the game with 12:43 left in the 3rd quarter, with the Browns looking for a spark in Gabriel’s absence.

But it didn’t go well for Sanders, the rookie who infamously had to wait until the 5th round and 144th overall pick to hear his name called at the draft by the Browns. Sanders’ first chance to prove everybody wrong came in mid-November of his rookie season in front of the home fans, but things went horribly for Sanders and the Browns.

First, there was Sanders himself, who completed just 4 of 16 passes for 47 yards, with 0 touchdowns and 1 interception. He was harassed by the Ravens’ defense while struggling, too, being sacked twice while finishing with a 13.5 passer rating.

To add insult to injury, the Browns lost the game in crushing fashion, with Baltimore tight end Mark Andrews scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 2:31 left in the 23-16 comeback victory. So, not only did Sanders not play well at all, his team didn’t get the win either, falling to 2-8 on the season.

Sanders had 1 final chance to save the day for himself and the Browns after Andrews’ go-ahead score. Things began well, too, with Sanders completing a 25-yard pass on the first play of the drive to get Cleveland to the Baltimore 25-yard line. The tying score was well within reach, but things stalled from there, and Sanders’ last pass on 4th-and-5 fell short of the target.

Before the injury, Gabriel, the former star at Oregon, went 7 of 10 for 68 yards with a passer rating of 88.8.

Ja’Marr Chase was believed to have spit on Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey during the Cincinnati Bengals’ 34-12 loss on Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh, and ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported afterward that the league will be “reviewing the incident.”

Chase, a former star wideout at LSU between 2018-2020, said he did not spit on Ramsey, according to a report by the Cincinnati Enquirer. Whether Chase spit on Ramsey or not, officials didn’t see the apparent incident on the field in the heat of the moment.

Ramsey, a former standout at Florida State, said that he hit Chase after being spit on by Chase. Because the officials did not see Chase spit on Ramsey, they only ejected Ramsey from the game and not Chase.

But after the victory, Ramsey was adamant with reporters that Chase did indeed spit on him as the 2 players fought with each other. Ramsey paid the worst price on Sunday, being ejected for throwing a punch at Chase in the 4th quarter. Cincinnati also got a first down because of Ramsey’s penalty.

The bad blood was building between the 2 players on these 2 AFC North rival teams. Chase and Ramsey were separated from each other after locking horns on the previous play, with both players being penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Bryce Young had a record-breaking day for the Carolina Panthers, and it came at the expense of a former bitter SEC rival.

The former Alabama star quarterback threw for 448 yards on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, breaking Cam Newton’s single-game team passing yards record in the process. You might remember that Newton played at and starred at Auburn, so even though Young and Newton played in the SEC at different times, that Alabama-Auburn rivalry knows no bounds when it comes to time periods.

Newton’s previous Panthers passing yards record was 432 yards, which he set in 2011 during his prolific rookie season in Carolina. Newton was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year after that magical 2011 season, which included that very prolific day when he threw for those 432 yards.

Well, records are made to be broken, and 14 years later that single-game mark was broken by a former Alabama quarterback, of all people. Even better for Young, his special performance on Sunday came in a thrilling, 30-27 overtime victory in Atlanta that lifted the Panthers to 6-5.

Young went 31 of 45 on Sunday with 3 touchdown passes and 0 interceptions, so those record-breaking passing yards came during an efficient performance that produced a very important victory for Carolina.

After the game, Young spoke to reporters about what it meant for him to break Newton’s long-standing record, highlighting how much respect he has for what Newton accomplished during his career.

Young is in his 3rd season in Carolina after playing at Alabama from 2020-22. He captured the Heisman Trophy during the 2021 season.

Former Alabama star wideout Calvin Ridley will miss the rest of the season for the Tennessee Titans after breaking his fibula in Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.

Titans head coach Mike McCoy told reporters of Ridley’s season-ending diagnosis after Sunday’s game, which Tennessee lost, 16-13, on a last-second field goal. Ridley was carted off the field after suffering the injury midway through the 1st quarter on Sunday, and at that point his return to the game was questionable.

Ridley’s 2025 season was already marred by injury before Sunday’s season-ending blow. He was making his return to action on Sunday after missing over a month with a hamstring injury. But his return to the field was short-lived after catching 1 pass for 13 yards on Sunday. That 1 catch proved costly, as the fateful injury occurred seconds later.

It happened on the Titans’ first offensive play of Sunday’s game, when Ridley caught that 13-yard pass. Ridley was trying to get more yardage after the initial catch, but he was hit by 2 Houston defensive players. He apparently was injured so badly on the play that he couldn’t continue, and FOX cameras caught Ridley being carted off the field for further examination.

Ridley came into Sunday’s game with 16 catches for 290 yards in limited action this season because of injury. He failed to catch a touchdown pass this year, and now he faces a long rehab journey to be ready for the 2026 season.

He was a big-time weapon at Alabama from 2015-17, helping the Crimson Tide win national championships in 2015 and 2017. Ridley finished his Crimson Tide career with 224 catches for 2,781 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Calvin Ridley missed over a month with a hamstring injury. On Sunday, he returned to the field for the Tennessee Titans against the Houston Texans.

Unfortunately, he didn’t last long in this one. He suffered an apparent ankle injury midway through the first quarter. Here’s the video of when it happened:

Ridley was shown by FOX cameras being carted off to the locker room for further examination. His return to the game is questionable.

Before his initial injury, Ridley had made 35 catches for 290 yards. His best game came against the Arizona Cardinals, logging 10 catches for 131 yards.

In Week 6 against the Las Vegas Raiders, Ridley had one catch for 18 yards. He was forced to leave that one due to an ankle injury, though, missing the Titans’ next three games. Prior to his injury against the Texans, he had a single catch for 13 yards.

The former Alabama standout is in his second season with Tennessee. In 2024, he made 64 catches for 1,017 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The Titans entered Sunday’s game with a 1-8 record. They have lost their last four games against the Raiders, New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, and the Los Angeles Chargets.

Former Alabama running back Brian Robinson Jr. Robinson started his NFL career in Washington, as the Commanders took him with the 98th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. In each of his three seasons in Washington, he rushed for at least 733 yards, and finished with 15 rushing touchdowns.

He was traded to the San Francisco 49ers this off-season, and has rushed for 238 yards and two touchdowns in a complementary role of Christian McCaffrey.

In today’s college football, players are much more willing to transfer instead of having to sit for a couple years. However, Robinson said the fact that he had to do just that at Alabama helped him be able to handle what the NFL was all about.

“I came from a program in college where you have to wait your turn,” Robinson told reporters. “You don’t come in and start, even if you have the talent and ability…it’s rare to start Day 1,” Robinson Jr said, “It’s taught me to be patient, continue to stay down and work. When my time comes, I gotta be ready for it.”

He spent his college days in Tuscaloosa, where he won a national championship in both 2017 and 2020. He had to wait his time behind some other great running backs, but he got his time to shine in 2021 when he rushed for 1,343 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Being McCaffrey’s back-up can be a tough job, as he is one of the rare running backs in today’s NFL that is on the field for nearly every play. However, that experience in Tuscaloosa prepared him for this exact situation.

Travis Hunter’s 2025 season has come to an end. The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that the rookie had undergone surgery on his right knee, weeks after what was later revealed to be an LCL tear suffered in practice landed him on injured reserve.

Despite Hunter’s surgery, the Jaguars announced that Hunter’s knee hasn’t been damaged further beyond what happened on Oct. 30.

Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, was the No. 2 overall pick out of Colorado. The Jaguars hoped that his unique two-way capability would help improve the fortunes of the franchise.

As a receiver, Hunter made 28 catches for 298 yards and a touchdown. That TD came on Oct. 19 against the Los Angeles Rams in London. As a defender, he was credited with 15 tackles and 3 passes defensed. With Hunter’s season shut down, he’ll now be able to focus on making a full recovery, with the goal of taking a larger role on the field with the Jaguars in 2026 and beyond.

The Jaguars, meanwhile, are well in the playoff chase with a 5-4 record. Despite an emotional 36-29 loss to the Texans, they project as the 7th seed in the AFC.

Jacksonville’s last playoff appearance was in the 2022 season, when they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round.

A second-team All-Pro selection and Pro Bowl in 2019, Hardman is best known for two stints with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2019-22 and 2023-24. He collected 3 Super Bowl rings in his time with the Chiefs (LIV, LVII and LVIII).

The post Brian Daboll fired amid disappointing 4th season, per report appeared first on Saturday Down South.

]]>
The New York Giants lost to the Chicago Bears 24-20 in Week 10 of the 2025 NFL season. One day later, the Giants have decided to part ways with head coach Brian Daboll, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Daboll, the offensive coordinator for the 2017 national championship-winning Alabama Crimson Tide, went 20-40-1 as the Giants’ head coach. He led New York to just a 2-8 record this season.

New York’s decision to fire Daboll comes after yet another blown lead on the road. The Giants have led by double-digits in 4 different road contests this year, but are 0-4 in those games:

 • Week 2 at Dallas: Led 13-3 (Q2, 5:37), lost 40-37 (OT)
 • Week 5 at New Orleans: Led 14-3 (Q2, 13:01), lost 26-14
 • Week 7 at Denver: Led 26-8 (Q4, 5:18), lost 33-32
 • Week 10 at Chicago: Led 20-10 (Q4, 3:57), lost 24-20

Daboll entered the year on the hot seat, but appeared well on the way toward saving his job after inserting 2025 first-round pick Jaxson Dart — from Ole Miss — into the starting lineup. Dart has completed 62.7% of his passes (128/204) for 1,417 yards, 10 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in 9 games (7 starts) this year. He has added 317 yards and 7 touchdowns as a rusher.

With Daboll, Dart looked like the Giants’ next franchise quarterback. New York believes it needs a new voice in the locker room, though, to return to true contender status. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will serve as the team’s interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The Giants will host the Green Bay Packers in Week 12 (1 p.m. ET).

During Sunday’s matchup between the Lions and the Commanders, former Alabama DL Daron Payne punched Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.

The former first-round pick, Payne, has been suspended 1 game for an act of unsportsmanlike conduct, according to Ian Rapoport. Payne has 30 total tackles on the year, with 12 of them being solo tackles. He also has 1 sack and 3.5 stuffs.

The Lions would go on to win the game 44-22, and St. Brown got the last laugh as he hauled in 5 receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Payne will be suspended for the Commanders’ game versus the Dolphins in Madrid on Nov. 16. He can appeal the NFL’s ruling; however, it is unlikely that Payne will see his suspension lifted.

The Commanders, who are already without their star quarterback Jayden Daniels, will likely be without their starting defensive lineman as they take on the Dolphins, who will be riding high coming off a 30-13 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Both teams are 3-7 and will be looking to turn their season around with a win overseas.

Kickoff between the Commanders and Dolphins is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday.

Former Alabama player Daron Payne and the Washington Commanders have had a frustrating season, and that continued on Sunday as they lost to the Detroit Lions by a score of 44-22.

For Payne, those frustrations boiled over during the game, as he threw a punch at Lions star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. The officials saw it and they ejected him from the game.

Here’s a clip:

Ejection may not be the only punishment that Payne receives, as the NFL will surely take a look at this. The league has put an emphasis on taunting and unsportsmanlike penalties, and this type of play could easily turn into a suspension for Payne.

Payne has been in Washington since being drafted No. 13 in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Alabama. His best season came in 2022 when he had 64 tackles and 11.5 sacks.

It has been a frustrating year in Washington to say the least. Last season, the Commanders were one of the best stories in the NFL. Jayden Daniels had a spectacular rookie season, and he led the team to the NFC Championship game.

This year, he has had to deal with a ton of injuries and the team is now 3-7 on the year and would likely have to run the table to make it to the playoffs. While being frustrated is understandable, this is a moment that Payne will wish he made a different decision.

CJ Gardner-Johnson has accomplished many things throughout his NFL career, and has made big plays for many teams. He is now a member of the Chicago Bears, and delivered a big performance in the team’s 24-20 comeback victory against the New York Giants.

He finished the game with two sacks, and was given a game-ball by Bears coach Ben Johnson for his performance on Sunday.

“He’s always been a phenomenal football player,” Johnson said after the game. “I think he’s found a home here.”

Not only did he have two sacks, but he also had nine tackles as the Bears scored two touchdowns in the final four minutes to get the win.

Gardner-Johnson was just signed by the Bears on October 29 in a move that reunited him with defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. He has played with the Saints, Eagles, Lions, Texans and now the Bears, and he has 325 tackles and 18 interceptions in his career.

He played 2016-2018 at Florida, where he finished with 161 tackles, nine interceptions and four sacks before being selected by the Saints with the No. 105 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

At 6-3, the Bears are right there in the thick of things in both the NFC as well as the NFC North.

Epic Jaguars collapse leads to ‘bad beat’ of the year in the NFL https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/news/nfl/epic-jaguars-collapse-leads-to-bad-beat-of-the-year-in-the-nfl/ Sun, 09 Nov 2025 22:42:41 +0000 https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/?p=523902 The Jaguars were in complete control against the Texans, but they were outscored 26-0 in the fourth quarter lost in crushing fashion.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were well on their way to a win against the Houston Texans that would have moved the team to 6-3 on the season. They were up 29-10 in the fourth against a Texans team that was without star quarterback C.J. Stroud, who was out with a concussion from Week 9.

However, chaos ensued and the Texans took a 30-29 lead late in the fourth quarter. With the Jaguars trying to get a desperation Hail Mary, Trevor Lawrence was hit by former Alabama star Will Anderson Jr., and fumbled a ball that Texans defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins took it back for a touchdown as time expired.

This made the final score 36-29 Texans, and bettors who had the Jaguars at +1.5 were left in agony.

Parker Washington had a big game for the Jaguars. First, he scored on a 7-yard pass to give the Jaguars a 10-0 lead early. Then early in the second quarter, he took back a punt 73 yards to put the team up 17 points.

The Jaguars entered the day as the last team currently in the AFC playoff field, but missed a huge opportunity to create a little separation. In Week 11, they host the Los Angeles Chargers in a game with huge AFC playoff standings.

Former Georgia star quarterback Matthew Stafford has been a cool study in longevity at the NFL level, and Stafford showed another example of that on Sunday.

Stafford tossed his 400th career NFL touchdown pass in the 2nd quarter as he tried to lead his Los Angeles Rams to victory over the San Francisco 49ers. The visiting Rams were being rude guests on Sunday, as Stafford’s history-making 4-yard TD toss to Davis Allen gave Los Angeles a 21-0 lead against its NFC West rival.

Here is the touchdown pass that was yet another benchmark for the Super Bowl-winning QB:

Stafford led the Rams to that Super Bowl victory to end the 2021 season, which was his first year with the franchise. But he made his NFL name during a 12-year run with the Detroit Lions, who took him with the first overall pick of the 2009 draft out of Georgia.

He played at Georgia from 2006 to 2008, being named 2nd-team All-SEC and first-team All-American during his final season in Athens.

As Sunday showed, the Tampa native is still going strong at the NFL level all these years later, and Sunday provided another memorable moment for Stafford in his legendary football journey.

He’s 37 years old now, but Stafford is still adding accomplishments to his long list and trying to lead the Rams to another Super Bowl crown in 2025.

New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has shown a tendency to utilize his legs throughout his young NFL career, which can be both beneficial and potentially damaging.

The latter result occurred Sunday afternoon, as while Dart was looking to escape the pocket against Chicago, a swarm of Bears surrounded him. Whilst attempting to evade, Dart’s helmet was partially pulled off, and he was brought to the ground while also taking several more hits.

Giants fans also noted that Dart made no movement or recognition that he had fumbled the ball, a sign that he was not fully cognizant of what was going on around him. The quarterback gingerly walked off the field and was taken to the locker room shortly after.

Later in the afternoon, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed that Dart was ruled out of the game with a concussion.

The rookie signal-caller out of Ole Miss has impressed since taking over for Russel Wilson as the Giants’ starter earlier this year. Entering Sunday’s game, Dart had thrown for 1,175 yards, 10 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions while completing 62.3% of his passes. And as mentioned, Dart has used his legs quite a bit as well, having ran for 251 yards and 5 scores.

This was the second time Dart had undergone concussion protocols this season, with New York having already been fined for breaching that protocol once.

]]>
It’s time for Week 10 of the 2025 NFL season, which means 3 more bold predictions to consider for this NFL Sunday.

Last week, we went 1-2 with these plus-money bets. The Denver Broncos won outright against Houston as +110 underdog but that was our only winner of the weekend.

We’ll strive for a better Week 10.

NFL Week 10 bold predictions

Here are 3 plus-money bets to consider for this week:

Giants over Bears

I like the Giants to win outright against Chicago this weekend. The Bears have consistently found ways to lose games this season — and they were on track to do so again last weekend before a miracle long touchdown pass to Colston Loveland in the game’s final minute. Caleb Williams looked excellent last week, but I expect New York’s defense to offer a little more resistance than Cincinnati’s did. On the other side of the ball, the Giants offense ranks top-5 in the NFL in EPA-per-play since Week 6.

Pick: Giants money line +190 (via Fanatics)

Amon-Ra St. Brown 100+ receiving yards

The Commanders have one of the worst secondaries in the NFL and it’s been getting worse in recent weeks. Since the start of Week 7, they rank dead last in the NFL in EPA-per-drop-back allowed. Washington also has one of the most-targeted slot cornerbacks in the NFL this season in Mike Sainristil. Per PFF, he’s seen 42 slot targets this season and has allowed 32 catches for 362 yards on those attempts. His 1.78 yards per snap allowed out of the slot ranks next-to-last in the NFL among slot corners with at least 100 coverage snaps this season. Enter one of the NFL’s most prolific wide receivers: Amon-Ra St. Brown. Detroit gets creative with where he lines up, but he’s in the slot about half the time. I like his price to go over the century mark for the third time this season against a Washington defense that has neither the talent nor the motivation to stop him.

Pick: Amon-Ra St. Brown 100+ receiving yards (+145 on BetMGM)

Quinshon Judkins to score twice

The Jets are near the very bottom of the NFL when it comes to rushing defense. This looks like a great matchup for running back Quinshon Judkins, who has already amassed 20 red zone rush attempts so far this season. He’s turned 4 of those into touchdowns. The Browns aren’t great on offense, but they’ll be getting to face a Jets defense that was just gutted at the trade deadline. Among the players New York moved was defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, who is among the best run defenders in the NFL.

Pick: Quinshon Judkins 2+ TDs (+370 on DraftKings)

Former Florida QB Jeff Driskel is going back to a familiar spot. The Arizona Cardinals are bringing Driskel back as a practice squad player.

Arizona’s move comes as the club sends Kyler Murray to the injured list, keeping him out for at least 4 games. Driskel was with the Cardinals back in 2023, giving him familiarity with the system used by offensive coordinator Drew Petzing.

Driskel’s former Florida teammate Jacoby Brissett is leading the Cardinals in Murray’s absence. The two quarterbacks played for Will Muschamp’s Gator team in 2011 and ’12. Brissett transferred to NC State after the 2012 season. Driskel remained at Florida through the 2014 season.

After transferring to Lousiana Tech in 2015 for his final collegiate season, Driskel began his pro career in 2016. He has bounced around the league. In addition to the Cardinals, Driskel has also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns, Washington Commanders and Las Vegas Raiders.

In his NFL career, Driskel has made 25 appearances, including 12 starts. He has completed 229-of-391 passes for 2,394 yards, 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Driskel last saw regular-season action with Washington in 2024 and was most recently a practice-squad QB with the Raiders.

The Denver Broncos will host the Las Vegas Raiders in an AFC West showdown on Thursday Night Football this week.

Denver currently leads the division and could make a run at beating out the Chiefs to win their first AFC West title since 2015. The Raiders are in their first season under head coach Pete Carroll and will bring a 2-game losing streak into this matchup.

Here’s what you should know about both teams before placing a bet on this game:

Raiders news and notes

 • The Raiders are 2-6 this season but are coming off of a competitive overtime loss to the Jaguars in Week 9. Vegas had one of its better offensive games of the season as it averaged 5.5 yards per play and Geno Smith threw 4 touchdown passes.
 • Rookie running back Ashton Jeanty has been a bit of a disappointment this season. The first-round pick is averaging just 3.9 yards per carry and has just 3 rushing touchdowns in 8 games.
 • However, a lot of Jeanty’s efficiency issues could be explained by a poor offensive line. Jeanty is tied for 8th in the NFL in rushing yards per attempt after contact, per PFF.
 • The Raiders’ passing game will be a bit of a mystery moving forward. Jakobi Meyers leads the team in targets with 49, but he was traded to the Jaguars this week.
 • Brock Bowers will likely have an even bigger role moving forward. Bowers is arguably the NFL’s best tight end and has 40 targets in just 5 games this season. He’s also coming off of the best game of his young career — 12 catches for 127 yards and 3 touchdowns.
 • Tre Tucker is a name that could see more attention from Smith in the passing game. Rookies like Jack Bech and Dont’e Thornton Jr. could also see more action, but Tucker leads the team in yards per route run (1.65) by a decent margin, per PFF.
 • The Raiders’ defense ranks 23rd in EPA-per-play allowed this season. Vegas is strongest against the run — 16th in rush defense EPA and 19th in rush defense success rate.

Broncos news

 • The Broncos are one of the NFL’s biggest surprises this season. They currently lead the AFC West with a 7-2 record and are coming off of a win in Houston last weekend.
 • Bo Nix is putting up very similar efficiency stats to what he did last season as a rookie. He has a TD% of 5.3%, an INT% of 1.9%, is averaging a little over 6 yards per attempt and has posted a 43% passing success rate. Those numbers are all very close to what they were a year ago.
 • Two areas where Nix has improved greatly: He now leads the league in sack rate at just 2.72%. Nix also leads all NFL quarterbacks in game-winning drives with 4 already this season (he had 3 all of last year).
 • Although RJ Harvey received some preseason hype, it’s been veteran JK Dobbins who gets the vast majority of the snaps and rushing usage in Denver’s backfield.
 • Troy Franklin and Courtland Sutton both have 60+ targets so far this season, although Sutton has been much more efficient when he catches the ball. Sutton averages 9.1 yards per target while Franklin is at 6.
 • Franklin has 12 red-zone targets this season, which is by far the most on the team. Sutton is second with 5. However, Franklin has just 3 red-zone touchdowns this season (and Sutton has zero).
 • Denver’s defense is elite. The Broncos rank 4th in EPA-per-play allowed this season.
 • Denver runs a very aggressive defensive system that results in lots of pressure on opposing quarterbacks. The Broncos are No. 2 in the NFL with a 28.8% pressure rate this season.
 • However, a key cog in the Broncos’ defense may not play on Thursday night. Cornerback Pat Surtain II, who won Defensive Player of the Year last season, missed last week’s game against Houston with an injury, hasn’t practiced this week.

Raiders vs. Broncos picks

I think Geno goes under this number. He had 39 last week, but that was an overtime game that had an unusual amount of scoring in the 4th quarter (31 points between the 2 teams). Before last week, he had gone under this total in 4 of his previous 5 games. Smith is also one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL against pressure. Among 34 quarterbacks with 50 drop backs this season, Smith ranks 30th in PFF’s passer grade. Against pressure, Smith is 35-of-70 for 400 yards Given Denver’s high-pressure defensive profile, I think the Raiders will have a more run-heavy game plan installed for this matchup.

Pick: Geno Smith under 31.5 pass attempts (-105 on Fanatics)

I think there’s value on Troy Franklin to find the end zone. As I wrote above, Franklin dominates Denver’s red-zone targets (he has 7 more than the next-closest Bronco through Week 9). And yet, Franklin’s anytime TD price is well behind Courtland Sutton’s (+145) and nearly equal to RJ Harvey’s (+200). At 6-3, Franklin has the size to be an excellent red zone threat and I think he will find the end zone again on Thursday night against a bad Vegas secondary.

Pick: Troy Franklin anytime TD (+190 on BetMGM)

The Dallas Cowboys woke up to devastating news on Thursday morning, as the team officially announced that second-year defensive end Marshawn Kneeland has tragically passed away at the age of 24.

A second-round pick out of Western Michigan, the Cowboys selected Kneeland with the 56th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after a stellar collegiate career with the Broncos.

Across his 5 seasons at Western Michigan from 2019-2023, Kneeland had 148 tackles, 27.5 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks, and was viewed as one of the best pass rushers available coming out in the 2024 draft cycle.

After appearing in 11 games as a rookie in 2024, Kneeland was starting to see his role in the Cowboys’ defense increase in 2025, appearing in all 7 games for the team and making 3 starts.

His most recent appearance came this past Monday against the Arizona Cardinals, where he scored his first career touchdown on a blocked punt recovery during Monday Night Football.

The official cause of Kneeland’s passing has yet to be announced, but he is survived by his girlfriend Catalina, his mother Wendy, father Shawn, and the rest of his extended family.

Former Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker will have to continue his NFL career elsewhere. The 27-year-old Hooker was released from the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad on Tuesday, confirmed by NFL.com.

Hooker signed with the Panthers’ practice squad this season on Aug. 27. The Detroit Lions selected Hooker in the 3rd round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Hooker didn’t play during his rookie season as he continued to recover from the ACL injury that occurred while at Tennessee. Last season, Hooker appeared in 3 games, completing 6 of his 9 passes for 21 yards.

Hooker began his college career with 4 seasons at Virginia Tech. Hooker redshirted in 2017 and saw limited reps the next season. In his last 2 seasons at Virginia Tech, Hooker stepped into the starting position, combining for 22 passing touchdowns and 14 rushing scores.

Then Hooker moved on to Tennessee for 2 tremendous seasons. Hooker notched 58 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing scores in his time as a Volunteer before going down with his injury. In 2022, Hooker was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year and a First-team All-SEC selection.

The Greensboro, North Carolina native was regarded by 247Sports as a 4-star prospect coming out of high school.

Former Alabama DT Quinnen Williams is on the move.

In a blockbuster trade, the New York Jets are sending Williams to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for two draft picks and Mazi Smith.

Williams has been in the NFL since 2019. The Jets selected him with the No. 3 overall pick in 2019.

In 2025, Williams has been an 8-game starter for the Jets. He has 32 total tackles on the season, including 17 solo stops, 7 TFLs and 1 sack with 3 forced fumbles.

Williams is on a run of 3 consecutive Pro Bowl selections. In 2022, he was selected first-team All-Pro and named the Defensive Player of the Year after posting a career-high 12 sacks and 28 QB hits.

In his pro career, Williams has played in 98 games, making 94 starts. He has recorded 322 total tackles, 199 solo stops, 101 QB hits and 40 sacks.

Williams spent the 2016-18 seasons at Alabama playing for Nick Saban. After redshirting, Williams logged 6.5 TFLs in the 2017 campaign. He had a breakout season in 2018, recording 19.5 TFLs with 8 sacks. Williams was named first-team All-American and All-SEC for 2018, winning the Outland Trophy for best interior lineman.

Walter Nolen III hurt his calf before he could begin his rookie year NFL training camp. The injury kept him out of the Arizona Cardinals’ first 7 games this season. He finally made his NFL debut against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9, and demonstrated everything Cardinals’ fans could have hoped for in the contest.

Nolen recorded his first NFL sack in Arizona’s 27-17 victory. He ended the game with 4 combined tackles, 2 tackles for loss, a QB hit and a pass defense in addition to the sack.

https://twitter.com/AZCardinals/status/1985557605498905049

Nolen, who just turned 22 in October, spent his freshman and sophomore college seasons at Texas A&M. He transferred to Ole Miss ahead of the 2024 campaign. In Oxford, he blossomed into a superstar, recording 48 combined tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks for the Rebels. He earned All-American status for his efforts.

Arizona head coach Jonathan Gannon joined the Cardinals after serving as the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive coordinator. He saw the value a dominant defensive tackle can provide first-hand with Jalen Carter in Philly. Arizona is hoping Nolen can become their version of Carter. He still has a long way to go to reach those heights, of course, but Monday’s performance was a terrific start. He’ll look to provide a strong encore when the Cardinals battle the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10.

Former LSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow in the Commanders’ blowout loss to the Seahawks during Sunday Night Football.

Midway through the fourth quarter, the Commanders were driving and had a 2nd and Goal to cut the deficit to 38-7. Daniels escaped the pocket and was running for the end zone when Seahawks defender Drake Thomas wrapped Daniels up and spun him to the ground. Daniels braced himself with his left arm when falling and injured his elbow in the process.

This is the third injury Daniels has suffered so far this season, but it’s the first that threatens to keep him out long-term.

Here’s a clip of the graphic injury:

Daniels previously suffered a sprained knee in Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers. This injury sidelined Daniels for the next two weeks, and he returned in Week 5. Two weeks later, Daniels suffered a hamstring injury in a Week 7 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He missed the next week against the Chiefs but returned the week after for the Commanders’ Sunday Night Game against the Seahawks.

Daniels is set to undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the full extent of the damage, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

It’s been a tough season for the Commanders, who are now 3-6 on the year and have lost 4 in a row.

Former Kentucky cornerback Maxwell Hairston made his NFL debut last week against the Carolina Panthers. However, it was his second career game on Sunday against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs where he made the first big play of his career.

Trailing 28-21, Mahomes and the Chiefs had a chance to drive down the field and tie the game. However, Hairston had other plans as he intercepted a deep Mahomes pass to help secure a win for the Bills.

Buffalo was able to run down the majority of the clock and then get one final defensive stand to clinch the victory over Kansas City.

Here’s a clip of Hairston’s interception:

Hairston was drafted by the Bills with the No. 30 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but suffered a non-contact injury during Bills rookie mini-camp on July 29. He was put on the injured reserve, but was able to come back and play last week against the Panthers.

During his time at Kentucky, Hairston showcased the ability to make the big-play, especially during the 2023 season. He had five interceptions that season, and he took two of them back for touchdowns.

Former Alabama defensive back Terrion Arnold, a first-round pick by the Detroit Lions in 2024, saw his team suffer a 27-24 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9.

Despite the defeat, Arnold logged his first NFL interception.

Late in the 2nd quarter and with the Lions trailing 17-14, Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy threw over the middle to Jalen Nailor, but Arnold was able to snag it and eventually come away with the INT.

Here’s video of Arnold’s first career pick:

Arnold, a 5-star recruit from Tallahassee, Fla., signed with the Crimson Tide from the 2021 recruiting class. After redshirting as a true freshman, he emerged as one of the top defensive backs in the country.

In 2022, he made 45 tackles and an interception while recording 8 pass deflections and a fumble recovery. He was named a freshman All-SEC selection and a freshman All-American after the season. In 2023, he picked off 5 passes, tied for 1st in the SEC, earning first-team All-American and All-SEC honors.

Arnold was then taken 24th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. In 16 games as a rookie, he totaled 60 tackles and 10 PDs. He entered Sunday with 22 tackles, finishing the game against the Lions with 3 tackles and 3 PDs.

]]>
Welcome to Week 9 of the 2025 NFL season.

As always, this piece will focus on 3 plus-money bets to consider for the upcoming NFL Sunday. Last week, we went 1-2 with the victory being Saquon Barkley going over 100 yards (+165). Unfortunately for us, the Patriots went over their team total and the Saints failed to win outright as an underdog.

3 NFL predictions for Week 9

Here are 3 plus-money bets for this week:

Broncos money line

I like Denver to go into Houston and pick up an outright win on Sunday. Both of these teams are coming off of victories in Week 8. The Broncos smashed the Cowboys while the Texans had arguably their best offensive game of the season against the 49ers. I think Denver deserves a bit more credit — Dallas has been pretty scrappy in most games this season. Meanwhile, the San Francisco defense that Houston dominated now ranks outside the top-20 in EPA-per-play allowed. CJ Stroud has also been terrible against pressure this season and no defense in the NFL has registered pressure more often than Denver’s through 9 weeks.

Pick: Broncos +110 on bet365

Looking to bet on NFL football this Sunday? Here’s everything you need to know before picking the best sports betting app to join!

Xavier Worthy to score

I think Xavier Worthy will find the end zone on Sunday. The former Texas wideout has been good when healthy this season. He’s gained 1.89 yards per route run against zone coverage this season, per PFF. Buffalo’s cornerbacks are much better in zone than in man, so I’d expect Kansas City to see quite a bit of zone on Sunday. Rashee Rice and a few other KC pass-catchers are also excellent against zone, but they don’t have Worthy’s downfield threat. Worthy’s average depth of target this season is 14.4 yards — his speed makes him a threat to score from the red zone or an explosive play.

Pick: Xavier Worthy anytime touchdown +200 on DraftKings

Jaguars-Raiders alternate total under

The Jaguars and Raiders will face off in Las Vegas this weekend in a matchup involving 2 of the very worst offenses in the NFL. It seems to be fairly common knowledge that Vegas’s offense is bad — the Raiders are 2-5 on the season and have scored a total of 26 points over their last 3 games. But the Jags are almost as bad on offense. Vegas ranks 30th in points per drive this season, Jacksonville is 27th. The Raiders are 25th in early-down success rate, the Jaguars are 22nd. Jacksonville is +8 in turnover margin this season and yet has a negative point differential on the season because of how its offense has under-performed. And with Travis Hunter now on IR, the Jaguars have lost a key difference-maker on offense. The total for this game is currently priced at 44.5 across the board, which I think is a field goal too high.

Pick: Alternate total under 41.5 (+118 on BetMGM)

It may seem hard to remember now, but heading into the 2020 NFL Draft, former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was viewed by many as one of the top prizes coming out of the college ranks.

Tagovailoa was drafted by the Miami Dolphins fifth overall in that cycle, and while he has had some success as a pro, the majority of his time in the NFL has been an up-and-down experience with several serious concussions along the way.

All of this led to CBS Sports’ Danny Kanell to suggest that the Dolphins move on from their current franchise quarterback in favor of a new one on Saturday morning’s episode of the College Football Pregame on CBS Sports HQ.

“Historically, we’ve seen ‘Suck for Luck,’ we’ve seen ‘Tank for Tua,’ now I’m saying ‘Flop for Fernando, ‘” Kanell said. “I want the Miami Dolphins to clean house, and take Fernando Mendoza with whatever draft pick they’re left with at the end of the season, which has been abysmal… I think that they need to clean house, draft Fernando Mendoza, the local kid.”

Mendoza has seen his draft stock soar over the course of the 2025 season with the Indiana Hoosiers, with his stellar play helping to guide the program to its first 8-0 start since 1967, and their highest ranking ever in the AP Poll at No. 2.

If he can continue his stellar play over the rest of the season, then he could end up being one of the first players selected come next April, whether it be by the Dolphins or some other squad.

Jaxson Dart has earned the honor of being named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for October.

The news comes after Dart replaced Russell Wilson with the New York Giants as the starting quarterback. Dart jump-started a stagnant offense and immediately made the Giants more versatile and fun, capable of knocking off a team on any given Sunday.

Through 4 games in October, Dart leads all rookie quarterbacks in total touchdowns (10), passing touchdowns (7), and passer rating of (90.0). He also has 3 rushing touchdowns, which is tied for first. Dart has 984 passing yards and 8 passing touchdowns with only 3 interceptions and a 59.9% completion rate on the season.

The Giants only won 1 game in October, but it was huge. The offense exploded against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football, winning 34-17. Overall, the Giants are 2-4 since Dart took the reins of the offense, but they were 0-2 before that. Instead of looking lifeless, they feel they could win any game on their schedule.

Dart seems like an excellent fit for the type of offense that Brian Daboll wants to run in New York. He also looks well worth the 25th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and he will only continue to grow and improve as an NFL quarterback, especially after learning from Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss.

The post Ravens vs. Dolphins: Odds, picks and predictions for Thursday Night Football appeared first on Saturday Down South.

]]>
Welcome to another week of Thursday Night Football.

Week 9’s matchup features the Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins, 2 teams who are 2-6 to start the season. Both squads are in must-win mode if they want to keep any hope alive of reaching the postseason in 2025.

Ravens vs. Dolphins odds

Here’s a look at the up-to-date betting odds for this matchup along with pricing info from the best sports betting app in every market:

Here’s what you should know before placing a bet on this game:

Ravens news

 • Lamar Jackson is expected back in Baltimore’s lineup on Thursday night as the Ravens seek a win over the Dolphins. Jackson has missed several games in a row due to a hamstring injury.
 • The Ravens appear to have battled through the injury crisis they were faced with during the early part of the season. Most key players who missed time such as Roquan Smith, Ronnie Stanley, Kyle Hamilton and others have returned the lineup.
 • Baltimore looked much-improved in Week 8 when it beat Chicago 30-16. The Ravens averaged 6 yards per play and rushed for 177 yards in that win.
 • Derrick Henry has not been quite as efficient as he was a year ago, but he’s still having a great season. Henry is averaging 4.7 yards per carry and is on pace for well over 1,200 yards.
 • Zay Flowers is Baltimore’s most-targeted wide receiver by far with 55 targets. He’s at 486 receiving yards on the season — no other Ravens pass catcher is above 210 yards.
 • Tight end Mark Andrews is in his age-30 season but is still a significant part of Baltimore’s passing game. He’s caught 24 passes in 7 games and is second on the team with 30 targets.
 • Defensively, the Ravens rank 30th in EPA per play. However, their talent level when healthy suggests a much better defensive unit than that. Baltimore is 16th in defensive EPA since Week 6.

Dolphins news

 • It’s been a nightmare season overall for the Dolphins, with the futures of coach Mike McDaniel and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa very much in doubt for most of the year.
 • However, Miami played its best game of the season on Saturday as it blew out on the Falcons on the road despite being an underdog of more than a touchdown.
 • Following that result, the Dolphins are 2-6 this season. They rank 25th in EPA offense and 27th in EPA defense.
 • Malik Washington has emerged as the clear No. 2 wide receiver in this offense behind Jaylen Waddle. However, Washington has not been very efficient — he’s averaging just 5.4 yards per reception. That’s by far the lowest in the NFL among receivers with at least 25 catches this season (next closest is 7.4 yards per reception).
 • Miami’s offense ranks 31st in success rate on first and second down.
 • The Dolphins defense forces 3-and-outs just 13.9% of the time, which ranks 29th in the NFL entering this week.

Ravens vs. Dolphins picks

I’ll lay the points with Baltimore. The Ravens have a lot of ground to make up due to their 1-5 start. Although they’re on the road on a short week here, I think Baltimore will take care of business against a Miami team that’s already been blown out a few times this season. The Dolphins have lost by 25 points twice already and have another 10-point loss on their résumé as well. Baltimore is also the healthier team by a long shot, which could mean a lot on a short week.

Pick: Ravens -7.5 (-110 on bet365)

I’ll take Malik Washington’s receiving yardage under. Washington has emerged as the No. 2 receiver and No. 3 pass catcher (behind Waddle and De’Von Achane) in this offense, but his efficiency is alarmingly low. I mentioned his 5.4 yards per reception above as the worst in the NFL. Per PFF, Washington is averaging 0.74 yards per route run. Among 49 wide receivers with at least 35 targets this season, that ranks 49th. His average depth of target is only 4.1 yards, which also ranks dead last among that sample. I think the Ravens will keep him under this number.

Pick: Malik Washington under 28.5 receiving yards (-113 on DraftKings)

The Philadelphia Eagles traded former Alabama star wide receiver John Metchie III to the New York Jets for nickelback Michael Carter II on Wednesday, according to a report by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport reported that the Eagles are also sending a 2027 6th-round pick to the Jets and getting a 2027 7th-round pick in the return package with Carter. The reported trade is happening 6 days before the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 4.

The 25-year-old Metchie, who was born in Taiwan and played at Alabama from 2019-21, is being traded for the 2nd time in less than 3 months. Metchie was traded to Philadelphia from the Houston Texans in mid-August, and now he’s reportedly on the move again from 1 green team to another in New York.

Carter had been a part of the Jets’ secondary for the past 5 years and had returned to action just last week after missing 3 games because of a concussion. In order to leave the Jets for the defending Super Bowl champions, Rapoport reported that Carter agreed to delete the $5 million for injury that was guaranteed during his 2026 contract year.

While Carter fills a need for the Eagles in their weakened defensive backfield, Metchie gives the Jets a boost in their wide receiver room after being used sparingly in Philadelphia. One of the standout weapons for Alabama during its 2020 national championship run, Metchie had just 4 catches for 18 yards in 7 games played for the Eagles this season.

The New Orleans Saints benched quarterback Spencer Rattler in their Week 8 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Second-round pick Tyler Shough replaced him in the third quarter of the game, and has apparently now replaced him in the starting lineup.

Early Tuesday afternoon, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Saints were moving forward with Shough as their QB1. The decision relegates Rattler, a fifth-round pick in 2024, to the sidelines.

Rattler, a former Oklahoma and South Carolina signal-caller, has made 15 starts in his brief NFL career. He has a 1-14 record, with his 1 win coming versus the New York Giants in Week 5.

RELATED: Are you interested in daily fantasy sports? Check out our Sleeper review to see if it’s the DFS app for you!

Rattler’s completion percentage (68.0%) actually ranks 12th-best in the NFL this season. However, there’s more to football than just completing passes. His yards per attempt (6.2) is seventh-lowest among qualified passers, and he’s averaging less than 200 passing yards per game (198.3).

The 2025 campaign was always expected to be filled with struggle for New Orleans. The Saints had one of the NFL’s lowest projected win totals and opened at 150-1 (+15000) to win Super Bowl LX at BetMGM. New Orleans’ fanbase hoped the team would be able to select Arch Manning in next year’s NFL Draft, but doing so in the first round certainly doesn’t seem as appealing as it once did.

Tyler Shough’s first NFL comes in Los Angeles on Sunday against the Rams. Kickoff is set for 4:05 p.m. E.T. (FOX).

With the New Orleans Saints looking for a spark during its game against the Tampa Buccaneers, quarterback Spencer Rattler has been benched in favor of rookie Tyler Shough. The Saints made the move during the third quarter while trailing 17-3.

Prior to being benched, the 6-foot Rattler completed 15 of his 21 passes for 136 yards and an interception while being sacked 3 times.

The 25-year-old Rattler is in his second NFL season after being drafted by the Saints in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. During his college career, Rattler was a First-team All-Big 12 selection while at Oklahoma. Rattler completed his college career at South Carolina from 2022-2023. Rattler racked up 10,807 yards with 77 touchdowns (32 interceptions) while in college.

The Saints selected the 6-foot-5 Shough in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Prior to this game, the 26-year-old Shough only saw action on Sept. 21 vs. the Seattle Seahawks, with both of his passes incomplete.

Shough played for 3 teams during his college career: Oregon (2018-2020), Texas Tech (2021-2023), and Louisville (2024). Shough amassed 7,820 yards, 59 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions in college.

The Saints entered the game with a 1-6 record and on a 2-game losing streak.

By crossing the end zone on a 1-yard rushing touchdown late in the third quarter, Allen now has compiled 46 games with at least 1 rushing touchdown and 1 passing touchdown — breaking the mark held by former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton in just his 118th career NFL regular-season game.

Allen, who played collegiately at Wyoming and was a 1st-round pick by the Bills in 2018, is trying to become only the 6th player in league history to win back-to-back NFL Most Valuable Player honors. Only Jim Brown (1957-58), Joe Montana (1989-90), Brett Favre (1995-97), Peyton Manning (2003-04 and 2008-09) and Aaron Rodgers (2020-21) have accomplished that feat.

Allen entered Sunday’s game against Carolina with 1,397 passing yards and 11 touchdowns against 4 interceptions and has also gained 254 yards on 46 carries with 3 touchdowns. Allen’s 68.5 percent completion rate entering Sunday is his highest since the 2020 season (69.2 percent).

Newton won the 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player award with the Panthers en route to an appearance in Super Bowl 50. The 2010 Heisman Trophy winner at Auburn, Newton retired in 2021 having rushed for an NFL quarterback-record 75 touchdowns among an NFL quarterback-record 1,118 rushing attempts in 148 regular-season games. Allen has scored 68 rushing touchdowns on just 117 career NFL carries.

Alabama is where Tua Tagovailoa and Jaylen Waddle first played together during their college days, but now they are teammates in Miami. During the Dolphins game on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, the duo did what they did often in Tuscaloosa all those years ago.

With Miami already leading 17-3, Tagovailoa and Waddle connected on a 43-yard touchdown to extend their lead over the Falcons:

Tagovailoa played at Alabama from 2017-2019, with his biggest moment being when he came in the national championship and completed a 2nd and 26 in overtime to give the Crimson Tide a win over Georgia. He finished his Crimson Tide career with 7,442 yards, 87 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions.

Waddle played in Tuscaloosa from 2018-2020, and he finished his college career with 106 catches, 1,999 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Waddle was known as a big-play guy in Alabama, and he has started to get back to being that type of player for the Dolphins. Entering October, he had only three NFL touchdowns of at least 43 yards. However, with the score on Sunday, he now has two such plays this month.

The Dolphins aren’t winning quite like the duo was used to during their time together in Tuscaloosa, but they showed on Sunday they are still more than capable of making magic on the football field together.

Former Georgia standout and current Buffalo Bills running back James Cook III delivered a dominant first 30 minutes of football Sunday against the Carolina Panthers – rushing for a jaw-dropping 153 yards on just 12 carries and a touchdown.

Cook’s stats were even more impressive when factoring in the yardage he gained before contact. The second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft chalked up 130 yards before in the first half before he was even touched by a Carolina defender – the most in a game since Colts running back Jonathan Taylor gained 142 yards before contact in a 2024 game against Jacksonville (Taylor finished with 177 yards that day in a 26-23 overtime victory over the Jaguars).

Cook is on pace for his third straight 1,000+ rushing season in the NFL. He gained 1,122 yards on 237 carries in 2023 and went for 1,009 yards on 207 carries in 2024. Cook entered the Week 8 contest against the Panthers with 537 rushing yards on 107 attempts.

Cook also easily picked up his third 100+ rushing campaign of the season, to go with 132 yards against the Jets, 108 yards against the Dolphins and 117 yards against the Saints. Cook now has 11 100+ rushing games in his 4-year career.

Football fans across the nation were devastated when they saw New York Giants rookie running back Cameron Skattebo be carted off the field after suffering a gruesome leg injury during his team’s game against Philadelphia on Sunday.

And much like the rest of the NFL world, Giants’ quarterback Jaxson Dart was visibly upset at seeing his fellow rookie go down like in such a manner. Dart walked away from the scene, yelling before bending down to the ground as he pondered what had just occurred.

not gonna post the Cam Skattebo injury, but here's Jaxson Dart's reaction to it in case you needed to know how serious it was

Christian D'Andrea (@trainisland.bsky.social) 2025-10-26T18:01:59.902Z

Skatttebo had his leg rolled up on during the second quarter and was carted off the field soon after. He had carried the ball three times for 12 yards and caught an 18-yard touchdown pass prior to leaving the game.

Through the first half of his first season in the NFL, Skattebo has impressed fans and players across the league with his productivity and play style after being drafted out of Arizona State. The bruising runner paced the Giants with 398 rushing yards and five touchdowns to go along with 189 receiving yards and another score coming into Sunday’s action.

Skattebo has been ruled out for the remainder of the game, but the extent of what is now being called a right ankle injury is still to be determined.

Derrick Henry will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer after his outstanding NFL career ends.

The former Alabama legend reached another milestone on Sunday with the Baltimore Ravens hosting the Chicago Bears. He punched one in from 2 yards out as the Ravens took a 7-6 lead just past the midway point of the second quarter.

That made it 111 career regular-season rushing touchdowns for Henry. He is now in the top 5 all-time in that category, breaking a tie with the great Walter Payton. Emmitt Smith holds the record with 164, followed by LaDanian Tomlinson (145), Marcus Allen (123), and Adrian Peterson (120).

Here’s video of Henry’s scoring run on Sunday:

Henry started the day with 439 yards and 4 touchdowns. Despite playing in his 10th season in the NFL, the 2015 Heisman Trophy winner has shown no signs of slowing down any time soon.

There’s a very good chance that Henry will, at worst, end the season at No. 4 on the career TD list. He could even end up passing Allen’s mark and moving into No. 3.

Meanwhile, the Ravens, thanks in part to the absence of Lamar Jackson, have struggled. They entered the game at 1-5 on the season.

The post 3 plus-money NFL bets for Week 8 appeared first on Saturday Down South.

]]>
Welcome back for Week 8 of the NFL season.

As always, this piece will seek to identify 3 plus-money NFL bets that are worth considering for Sunday’s slate of games. Last week, we took a slight loss with a 1-2 record. Colston Loveland’s receiving yardage over hit (+116), but the Jets did not win outright and Kimani Vidal did not score a touchdown.

NFL bold predictions Week 8

Here are 3 plus-money bets to consider for Week 8:

Saquon Barkley to hit 100 yards

This is already the second meeting of the year for the Giants and the Eagles. New York won in a huge upset earlier this month, but the Eagles are favored by more than a touchdown in this rematch at home. I liked Saquon Barkley’s longest rush over last time these teams played, and it missed hitting by a yard (twice). Barkley only had 12 carries that game as Philly was more focused on getting the ball to AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith in the passing game. Brown is out for this game, so maybe Philly will be more interested in attacking the NFL’s worst rushing defense (by EPA) in this spot. I’ll take Barkley to reach the century mark for the first time this season.

Pick: Saquon Barkley to record 100+ rushing yards (+165 on BetMGM)

Patriots to fall flat

I think New England’s team total for this game is about a field goal off. There’s been a lot of hype for Drake Maye over the past few weeks, but the Pats haven’t faced any defenses the caliber of what Cleveland has. New England’s last 3 opponents — Tennessee, New Orleans and Buffalo — all rank in the bottom 10 in the NFL in EPA defense. The Browns rank 3rd. Maye has also struggled with taking too many sacks this season, making this a problematic matchup against a Myles Garrett-led defense. Maye’s pressure-to-sack ratio, per PFF, of 24.4% is tied for third-worst among qualified quarterbacks this year.

Pick: Patriots alt team total under 21.5 (+142 on DraftKings)

Saints to pull the upset

Give me the Saints to win outright against the Buccaneers on Sunday. Tampa Bay will be going on the road in a divisional matchup and it has won several (flukey) close games already this year. It’s also a short week for the Bucs, who lost on Monday Night Football in Week 7. The Saints aren’t good, but they do play hard. I like this spot for New Orleans and I think Tampa is due for an upset loss.

Pick: Saints money line +185 on DraftKings

Thursday Night Football this week features a matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Chargers.

Both of these teams have postseason aspirations, so fans should be in for a great matchup.

Vikings vs. Chargers odds

Here’s a look at the latest betting odds for Thursday Night Football:

Here’s what you should know about both teams before placing a bet on this game:

Vikings news and notes

 • JJ McCarthy remains out for the Vikings as he recovers from an ankle injury. Carson Wentz is expected to start his fifth consecutive game this week.
 • Wentz has led the Vikings to a 2-2 record. He’s averaging 7.5 yards per attempt, which is a career-high. His PFF passer grade of 53.6 ranks 30th out of 32 quarterbacks with at least 75 drop backs over the last 4 weeks.
 • Jordan Mason has been excellent this season out of the backfield. He’s averaging 4.5 yards per carry, but arguably more importantly has a 56% rushing success rate this season. That ranks fourth among running backs (min. 75 carries) entering this week.
 • Justin Jefferson dominates Minnesota’s target share, even with a talented counterpart in Jordan Addison also lining up at receiver. Jefferson (52) has already doubled up Addison (26) in terms of targets this season.
 • Defensively, Minnesota has been dominant. The Vikings rank 4th in the NFL in defensive EPA-per-play.
 • That’s the biggest reason why the Vikings have been able to get to 3-3 despite subpar quarterback play so far this season. Minnesota has been especially good against the pass, ranking 3rd in pass defense EPA per play allowed.
 • The Vikings are 1 of 3 defenses in the NFL that forces their opponents into 3-and-outs on more than 30% of drives.

Chargers news and notes

 • The Chargers have not played well over the last month. Since starting 3-0, the Chargers have a narrow win over the Dolphins plus losses to the Giants, Commanders and Colts. The last 2 defeats haven’t been close — Washington won 27-10 and Indianapolis won 38-24.
 • Justin Herbert leads the league in passing yards and pass attempts. The Chargers are third in the NFL with a 64.9% pass play rate.
 • The Chargers have been banged up at offensive tackle this season. They lost left tackle Rashawn Slater to a season-ending injury in training camp and had to move Joe Alt over to the left side. Alt has had his own injuries to deal with this season, as has Trey Pipkins (Slater’s initial replacement).
 • LA has already played 4 different tackles over 140 snaps this season and only Alt has a PFF grade over 55. Alt and Trey Pipkins both practiced on Wednesday, leaving some room for optimism the Chargers could have both in the lineup on Thursday night.
 • Running back has also been an area where the Chargers are severely limited. Najee Harris is out for the year and first-round pick Omarion Hampton is currently on IR. Kimani Vidal is expected to get most of the usage this week.
 • Oronde Gadsden is a rookie tight end who had a breakout game in last week’s loss to the Colts. He caught 7 passes for 164 yards and 1 touchdown. He’s now earned 8+ targets in back-to-back games.
 • The Chargers have been mediocre defensively this season, to say the least. They rank 19th in defensive EPA-per-play. They’re also 21st in pressure rate this season.

Vikings vs. Chargers picks

I like the Vikings this week. Even if Joe Alt returns to the lineup, this Chargers offensive line is just poor. Herbert has been pressured 49 times already this season, which is the fifth-most for any quarterback in the NFL. Alt certainly helps, but the interior of LA’s offensive line has been pretty leaky too. Bradley Bozeman, Mekhi Becton and Zion Johnson have been tagged with a combined 41 pressures already this season, and they aren’t good run blockers either. The Vikings have been great against the pass and the Chargers’ defense has been pretty vulnerable. I think Minnesota keeps this within a field goal and is a threat to win outright.

Pick: Vikings +3.5 (-115 on Fanatics)

I’m fading the Oronde Gadsden hype train this week. Gadsden has been a huge part of LA’s passing game the past couple of weeks, but I think this number is too high. He’s also had a couple relatively anonymous games this season. The Chargers throw the ball a lot, but they have 3 receivers in Keenan Allen, Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnson who all accrue serious targets. Gadsden is a distant fourth to those 3 in terms of total targets this year. Gadsden is also due for some regression as he’s currently catching almost 80% of his targets for a whopping 11 yards per target. He’s been almost as efficient as Jaxon Smith-Njigba (on much lesser volume) in those areas. The Vikings have also defended tight ends well this season. Only one (David Njoku) has totaled more than 5 targets and 40 yards against Minnesota this season.

Pick: Oronde Gadsden under 43.5 receiving yards (-110 on DraftKings)

LSU has earned a fine reputation as an NFL pipeline in recent years, and the program’s ability to turn top college talent into prime NFL performers was on full display during Week 7 of the NFL season.

The SEC powerhouse from Baton Rouge owned the NFL’s AFC Players of the Week roll call on Wednesday, with the top offensive, defensive and special teams players from the conference all hailing from LSU. Even better, all 3 former LSU honorees were part of the Tigers’ 2019 national championship team.

We’ll start on offense, with Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase being named the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Week. Chase had his fingerprints all over the Bengals’ thrilling 33-31 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers last Thursday night, catching an unheard of 16 passes for 161 yards and 1 touchdown. The 16 receptions broke Cincinnati’s franchise record, a mark previously held by Chase. So, the former LSU star reset his own team record and helped the Bengals get a huge victory in primetime.

Let’s switch to the other side of the ball, where New England Patriots linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson had a game to remember in a victory over the Tennessee Titans. The former first-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars made the Patriots very thankful he’s theirs now. Chaisson had 3 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 tackles-for-loss, 2 quarterback hits and recovered a fumble for a 4-yard touchdown, which was the first TD of his career. All that earned Chaisson the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Week award.

Finally, the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honor went to the Cleveland Browns’ Grant Delpit, who played a vital role in last Sunday’s blowout victory over the Miami Dolphins. The safety had 2 tackles, 1 sack, 2 quarterback hits and a tackle-for-loss, with both of his tackles coming on special teams to go with a forced fumble.

LSU’s rare accomplishment at the NFL level was celebrated on Wednesday with this post:

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels will not play on Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs, according to a report from ESPN.

The former LSU star quarterback is dealing with a low-grade hamstring strain. Veteran backup Marcus Mariota will start in Daniels’s place against the defending AFC champs.

Daniels underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed no long-term damage to his hamstring. Still, the Commanders seem uninterested in risking further aggravation against Kansas City by playing Daniels on Monday night.

This season has been a difficult one for the former Heisman Trophy winner. Daniels sprained his left knee in Week 2 against Green Bay and missed 2 games because of it. Washington went 1-1 in his absence.

His latest injury occurred during the third quarter of last Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Mariota replaced Daniels in what went on to become a 44-22 loss.

In 5 starts this season, Daniels has 1,031 passing yards and 8 touchdowns against 1 interception. He also has 211 rushing yards and a score.

Mariota has 426 passing yards and 3 touchdowns against 2 interceptions in 3 appearances this season.

Russell Wilson went back into the history books in firing back at Sean Payton for insulting comments that the Denver Broncos head coach made about him after Payton’s Broncos beat Wilson’s Giants on Sunday.

Following the Broncos’ insane comeback in a 33-32 victory over the Giants, in which New York allowed all 33 of those points in the fourth quarter as Denver erased a huge deficit, Payton couldn’t resist a huge dig at Wilson. The head coach and quarterback spent 1 unsuccessful season together in Denver in 2023, which turned out to be Wilson’s final season there.

Payton knows all too well that former Ole Miss star quarterback Jaxson Dart replaced Wilson as the Giants’ starter and has given New York a serious spark. Wilson was benched by the Giants just like he was benched by Payton with the Broncos in 2023 and, well, even after getting the better of the Giants last Sunday, Payton couldn’t resist throwing another punch their way. Specifically, the punch was aimed at Wilson, who was an innocent bystander of the Giants’ collapse, with Dart being the starter now.

After the game, Payton revealed that he told Giants owner John Mara that he hoped the team wouldn’t switch from Wilson to Dart until after Denver and New York played their Week 7 game. In other words, Payton would’ve rather faced Wilson than Dart.

Well, Wilson wasn’t having anything of it. So, he fired his own salvo back toward his former coach’s way. And in that response on his social media account, Wilson went a little further, mentioning the “Bountygate” scandal that Payton was wrapped up in during his years in New Orleans. Payton was suspended for the entire 2012 season for his role in the scandal, becoming the first head coach in modern NFL history to be suspended for anything.

The scandal involved rewarding Saints players for deliberately attempting to knock opposing players out of games, and Wilson had his own vicious post ready for Payton on Tuesday afternoon in which he called Payton “classless”.

Here is the full, shocking post from the normally mild-mannered Wilson:

https://twitter.com/DangeRussWilson/status/1980735749394665615

It will be interesting to see if this back-and-forth between a coach and player with no love for each other has any staying power. Clearly, neither party has forgotten that 2023 season in Denver, and Wilson hasn’t forgotten about Payton’s ugly past in New Orleans.

Doug Martin, a former star running back for Boise State and Pro Bowler with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, died this weekend at the age of 36.

Martin’s death was first reported by TMZ on Sunday. He last played in the NFL in 2018 with the Oakland Raiders, spending 1 season with the team after a successful 6-season run with the Buccaneers.

Martin starred at Boise State from 2007-11 before the Buccaneers made him a first-round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The Boise State football social media account confirmed thew news on Sunday:

Martin’s cause of death is unknown as of publication.

Martin rushed for 5,356 yards during his NFL career with 30 rushing touchdowns. He also was a weapon out of the backfield during his pro career, piling up over 1,200 yards receiving.

He made the Pro Bowl with the Buccaneers in his rookie season in 2012 and then again in 2015. Martin was also a first-team All-Pro selection in 2015.

The Oakland native first made his football name at Boise State, rushing for 3,431 yards with 43 touchdowns during his collegiate career. Martin started 25 of the 51 games he played in at Boise State. He was a first-team All-Moutain West Conference selection during his final season in 2011.

The 5-foot-9, 223-pound Martin had the nickname “Muscle Hamster” from his Boise State teammates because of his strength and small stature.

Tua Tagovailoa probably wants to forget the 2025 season already, and he definitely wants to forget Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

The Alabama legend had a nightmare afternoon as his Miami Dolphins got buried by the lowly Browns, losing 31-6 in Cleveland, to fall to 1-6. Tagovailoa had a lot to do with the Dolphins getting steamrolled by a Browns team that’s just 2-5 now. He tossed 3 interceptions, and he paid dearly for it, getting benched late in the game in favor of former Texas standout Quinn Ewers.

Tagovailoa wasn’t able to do much on Sunday besides killing his team with those 3 picks. He completed just 12 of 23 passes and had just 100 yards passing. The Miami offense he led managed just 2 field goals in the 2nd quarter, which were largely insignificant as the Dolphins were behind 17-6 at halftime before a listless, scoreless 2nd half.

Even before Sunday’s benching, it’s been a nightmare season for Tagovailoa, the hero of Alabama’s 2017 national title game victory over Georgia. Including Sunday’s 3 picks, Tagovailoa has now thrown 10 interceptions in 2025, and he’s tossed only 11 touchdowns, so it clearly hasn’t been working for him this fall as the Dolphins’ season has spiraled out of control.

This wasn’t even Tagovailoa’s first 3-interception game of the season. Just last week, in a devastating home loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, Tagovailoa also tossed 3 picks, so his benching late in Sunday’s game was probably inevitable.

Ewers went 5 for 8 for 53 yards passing in mop-up duty after being inserted for Tagovailoa.

The Dolphins selected the rookie Ewers in the 7th round of this year’s NFL Draft and gave him a little taste of life in the NFL on Sunday after pulling Tagovailoa.
